2016 U.S. Clean Tech Leadership Index

Cleantech San Diego Stakeholders:

I am excited to share with you that the Clean Edge 2016 U.S. Clean Tech Leadership Index has ranked the San Diego Region #3 in the nation for cleantech leadership, moving us up one place from last year. The annual report tracks and ranks the clean energy and cleantech activities of the 50 largest metro areas in the U.S. – from electric vehicle and renewables adoption to policy and investment activity.

We are extremely proud of our top ranking, which proves that the San Diego region’s cleantech sector is stronger than ever.

Thank you for your continued commitment to our region’s economy and environment.

The Clean Energy & Transportation Initiative DSN works to support a number of key foundational career pathway/workforce development programs in the San Diego-Imperial region. One example is Hoover High School.  The school offers a Green Technology and Engineering Program is called the Sustainable Academy of Building and Engineering (SABE).  The Clean Energy & Transportation Initiative DSN for the region has been an integral part of this program implementation, providing resource support and industry advisory board input. Key additional program partners are the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 569, Grid Alternatives, San Diego Unified School District, San Diego Gas & Electric Company, California Center for Sustainable Energy, and Strategic Energy Innovations. Last year enrollment in SABE included 106 freshman, 76 sophomores, 32 juniors, and 28 seniors.  During 2015-16 SABE has grown to have approximately 76 students at each grade level.

The SABE academy prepares students for college and career as well as tomorrow’s global challenges. The demand for highly skilled engineers, renewable energy experts and development specialists is not only growing regionally, but world-wide. The new roles for environmental engineers, scientists and green technical occupations will become increasingly more critical within the next decade. Graduating students advance to many of the community college programs in the region as well as to universities.

The Green Technology and Engineering Program provides students a challenging hands-on approach exploring engineering, renewable energy and green technology related careers. The course offers several experimental hands-on student built projects, ranging from solar boats to solar greenhouses.

We welcome industry involvement to enhance our educational programs to meet your workforce needs.  We can also provide customized training for your employees.
